The Interconnector route selection process

A 900km continuous transmission line is a significant distance. This gives us all the more reason to make sure the process used to decide on the final route is robust, rigorous and provides opportunity for early and meaningful local input.

While we can’t change where the interconnector starts and finishes, or where it connects into supporting sub-stations, the route in between these points is still to be finalised. Our team has developed an initial 10km-wide and approximately 900km-long study area based on detailed analysis of major environmental, social and engineering constraints that would limit where the route could go. At the same time, our team has identified potential opportunities that could minimise any disturbance caused by the proposed interconnector.

We are now testing the initial study area and the process being used to narrow it to a more defined route with landholders, local and state governments, communities and other key stakeholders. We are seeking your comment on any additional constraints and opportunities you may be aware of and also any other feedback you would like to share with us at this point.

The feedback received will be used by TransGrid and ElectraNet to assist with finalising the route and defining our engagement strategy moving forward.
